(11 JAN 2023) INVERNESS – Eastgate Shopping Centre and FOR:EV partner to provide electric car charge points in the centre’s carpark. The five FOR:EV charge points installed at Eastgate are four 25kW DC charge points and one 22kW AC charger with the ability to charge two cars simultaneously. Overall, the charge points have the capacity to charge over 100 electric vehicles a day.

FOR:EV, an Edinburgh based EV charge point supplier, specialises in offering fully funded electric charging solutions for its customers, removing any financial barriers to installing fully accredited green energy solutions for vehicles. It particularly focuses on increasing the number of charge points in urban areas with community hubs, commercial sites, and destinations. Many urban spaces across Scotland are situated in densely populated areas with little off-street parking, and as such, many wishing to make the switch to an electric vehicle struggle to have access to charge points. In adding these charge points, Eastgate Shopping Centre aims to address the lack of charging solutions in their local area.

Jackie Cuddy, Eastgate Shopping Centre Manager commented on the partnership: “Creating a sustainable future is important to the Eastgate team, playing a key role in our decision-making processes. We are committed to playing a role in addressing global environmental challenges and the tremendous impact the built environment has on our planet. Wherever possible we are taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint and increase sustainability. These new electric vehicle charge points will support our commitment and provide charging for those visiting with electric vehicles from both the local community and those visiting from further afield.”

Lindsay Wallace, FOR:EV Founder and CEO said: “We’re extremely proud to be leading the charge in positively changing our environment one charge point at a time. The charge points at the Eastgate Shopping Centre will provide easy access to EV charging shoppers as they peruse their favourites stores. The drive to net-zero is at the heart of our business, and we were delighted that the team at Eastgate were like minded as a business in their desire to get these charge points in their desire to get these charge points in place. Our fully funded charging solutions are an easy way for businesses to support their own goals in creating a greener, cleaner environment.”

Transport is the largest contributor to harmful climate emissions in Scotland and the nation has committed to reducing its emissions by 75% by 2030 and to a legally binding target of net-zero by 2045. The Scottish government is also phasing out the use of any new petrol or diesel vehicles in public sector fleets by 2030.
